The United Nations mission in Cote d'Ivoire will end in June 2017, a UN report published Tuesday by the local media has said.
"The UN will continue reducing the size of its mission in Cote d'Ivoire and hopes to finally end it in June 2017," the report noted.
"On June 30, 2017, the mission will be closed and there will be no other to succeed it given the positive direction Cote d'Ivoire has taken," it affirmed, further pointing out that the country had progressed towards peace and lasting stability as well as economic prosperity.
The number of officers deployed under the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (ONUCI) is expected to reduce from the current 4,000 to 2,000 by Aug. 31, 2016.
According to the report, from January to April 2017, the UN will reduce the figure by 650 officers. The closure of the mission and repatriation of the materials will occur between May and June 2017.
Currently, ONUCI is focusing on promotion of national reconciliation, demobilization of ex-combatants, promotion of human rights and supply of humanitarian aid. Endit
