Tokyo stocks rise in morning on buybacks, strong yen caps gains

Xinhua, April 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks extended gains Wednesday morning as investors bought back a swathe of issues that were oversold following the market's slump a day earlier and run of closing lows, although gains were capped by a comparatively firm yen.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 44.31 points, or 0.28 percent, from Tuesday to 15,777.13.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 1.93 points, or 0.15 percent, to 1,270.30.

Notable advancers by the morning break comprised electric power and gas, marine transportation, as well as pulp and paper-linked shares. Enditem
