Nigeria arrests 15 suspected kidnappers

Xinhua, April 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Nigeria's police successfully captured 15 alleged kidnappers in recent operations carried out in northern Kaduna State, a top officer said Monday.

Police chief in charge of the state Umar Shehu told a news conference that the suspects included those who recently kidnapped Mansur Ahmed along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.

He said some of the suspects were in possession of foreign currencies and valuables suspected to have been snatched from their victims.

The commissioner said the police were still investigating the involvement of the suspects in the alleged abduction of the late Army officer, Col. Ismail Inusa.

Inusa was killed last week shortly after being abducted when he was being conveyed in his car by his wife.

Abduction is common in Nigeria. Over 300 foreigners and ransom- able citizens have been seized in the Niger Delta since 2006. Almost all have been released unharmed after paying a ransom.

Boko Haram, a Nigeria-based terror group, was responsible for the kidnap of more than 200 school girls of Chibok Town in Nigeria' s northeastern Borno State in April 2014.

The Chibok girls are yet to be found, although the Nigerian government vowed to rescue them alive. Endit
