1st LD Writethru: Ghana President names new central bank governor

Xinhua, April 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has named Abdul Nashiru Issahaku as substantive Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), the Flagstaff House (Presidency) said here late Monday.

This follows the retirement of previous governor Henry Kofi Wampah at the end of March with four months left on his tenure.

As the 14th substantive governor of the BoG since 1957, the economist faces two major challenges of maintaining currency stability which started under Wampah and reining in double-digit inflation.

The appointment of Issahaku as substantive governor of BoG came after First Deputy Governor Millison Narh was earlier named as acting governor of the central bank. Enditem
