Brazil's Tsuboi secures Rio 2016 table tennis berth

Xinhua, April 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Brazil's Gustavo Tsuboi has secured one of the last remaining table tennis berths at this year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The 31-year-old defeated Paraguay's Marcelo Aguirre 4-3 in the final playoff at the Latin American Olympic qualifying tournament in Santiago.

"It was a difficult match," Aguirre was quoted as saying by the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper.

"I would like to have qualified earlier, as I did in 2008 and 2012. But this I felt a lot of pressure because of the faith my coach (Jean Rene Mounie) put in me.

Tsuboi's countrymen Hugo Caldeno, Gui Lin and Caroline Kumahara also clinched Rio 2016 berths during the competition in Santiago. Endit
