Man found guilty of preparing terror attack on U.S. soldiers in Britain

Xinhua, April 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

A 25-year-old man has been found guilty of preparing to carry out a terrorist attack on U.S. troops based in Britain, the Metropolitan Police said Friday.

Junead Khan, from Luton, "repeatedly rejected police offers to help divert him from radicalism" and "faces jail after his plots to kill soldiers in the UK was uncovered," the Metropolitan Police noted in a statement.

Khan was found guilty of "engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts" on Friday at Kingston Crown Court in London.

The court heard that local police officers from Bedfordshire visited Junead Khan four times in 2014 to try and turn him away from extremism following referrals from statutory agencies.

"Junead Khan refused help and instead became more embroiled in extremism, liaising with someone police believe to be a fighter for Daesh, and plotting acts of terrorism," the statement said.

Following a joint MI5 and Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) investigation, specialist police detectives arrested Junead Khan and his uncle Shazib Khan for terrorist plans. Endit
