Austria proposes creating new EU border force

Xinhua, April 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Austria on Friday suggested setting up a new force to secure the European Union (EU) external border to deal with any influx of migrants.

After meeting with defense chiefs from central and eastern European countries, Austrian Defense Ministers Hans Peter Doskozil said Austria and its neighbors in central Europe will send the proposal to EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.

Although the main corridor of the migrants coming to EU via the Balkan route has been under control, there is still concern that new route of migration could be developed.

Austria, as the migrants' last stop in their journey towards Germany, has introduced a policy of capping the number of migrants of getting access to the country. Enditem
