Canada reports best economic growth since mid-2013

Xinhua, April 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Statistics Canada on Thursday reported that the country's real gross domestic product grew 0.6 percent in January, its best monthly performance since mid-2013.

It marked the third straight month of relatively strong gains and the fourth straight increase overall, as the country's economy continued to pick up speed after appearing to stall in late 2015.

Statistics Canada said that the 0.6 percent rise from December's growth rate of 0.2 percent is well ahead of the 0.3 percent average estimate given by Canadian economists.

Canada's economic growth was boosted by manufacturing, retail trade and the oil and gas sectors. In January, the country's manufacturing sector grew 1.9 percent and retail trade grew 1.5 percent, while the oil and gas industries rose 0.9 percent, and service sector rose 0.4 percent. Endit
