Afghan forces kill 5 militants in northern district

Five insurgents have been killed and three others injured as a clash erupted in Ashkamish district of the northern Takhar province on Thursday, police spokesman in the province, Abdul Khalil Asir said.

"A group of Taliban rebels in far-flanged villages of Ashkamish district were attempting to disturb the lives of villagers when police launched operations today morning, killing five armed rebels and injuring three others," Asir told Xinhua.

Units of police are chasing the militants to ensure lasting peace, law and order there in the villages, the official said.

Taliban militants haven't commented. Endit
