Meningitis epidemic kills over 60 in Niger

A meningitis outbreak that was reported in Niger between Jan. 4 to March 13 this year has left at least 61 people dead out of a total of 730 detected cases across the entire national territory, the latest data from the World Health Organization (WHO) has shown.

The capital Niamey recorded 248 infected cases, out of which six people died during this period.

According to the WHO, the most affected age bracket was between 5 to 14 years.

In 2015, a meningitis outbreak killed over 573 people out of 8,500 cases that were detected in Niger. Endit
