Six Nigerien soldiers killed in Boko Haram ambush

Six Nigerien soldiers were on Wednesday killed and three others injured in the southeast region of Diffa, near the border with Nigeria, after their patrol unit was ambushed by Boko Haram terrorists, an official source has said.
The statement from Niger's interior ministry did not specify the death toll on the part of the assailants, but revealed that a major ground and aerial operation has been mounted to neutralize the terrorists who were fleeing to the southern region, towards Nigeria.
For the last one year, Nigerien localities of Bosso and Diffa have come under deadly attacks from Boko Haram which operates within its positions in Nigeria.
The previous attack, before the one on Wednesday, occurred on March 16 when a Nigerien army commander was killed and two police officers injured in Diffa region, in an explosion orchestrated by Boko Haram.
The attacks have resulted in deaths of hundreds of Nigerien soldiers and civilians.
On the other hand, Nigerien army has revealed that it has so far killed over 1,000 terrorists and imprisoned several others, besides destroying a lot of materials belonging to the terror group. Enditem
