Cambodia, South Korea exchange views on Korean peninsula

Xinhua, March 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

Cambodia's Foreign Minister Hor Namhong met with South Korea's deputy foreign minister Kim Hyoung-zhin here on Thursday to exchange views on the Korean peninsula, a Cambodian spokesman said.

Namhong, who is also the deputy prime minister, said Cambodia is concerned over the recent nuclear test and missile launch conducted by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), according to Chum Sounry, a spokesman for the ministry of foreign affairs.

The top diplomat said that Cambodia called on the DPRK to comply with all relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and to return to the long-stalled six-party talks to find peaceful solutions to the issue.

"Cambodia supports efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula," the spokesman quoted Namhong as saying to Kim.

Both sides discussed the visit plan of South Korea's president Park Geun-hye to Cambodia sometime this year at the invitation of Prime Minister Hun Sen.

They also exchanged views on South Korea-ASEAN relations and South Korea-Cambodia cooperation, particularly in trade, investment and tourism. Enditem
