Tokyo shares end lower amid cautions on economic data

Tokyo shares erased gains in the morning session and ended lower on the trading Thursday amid investors' cautions ahead of the release of key U.S. and Japanese economic reports.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 120.29 points, or 0.71 percent, from Wednesday at 16,758.67.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 9.09 points, or 0.67 percent, to 1,347.20.

Decliners were led by retail, food, and information and communication issues.

The turnover was about 2,307.3 billion yen (around 20.53 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
