Large cache of weapons impounded along Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire border

Xinhua, March 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

A large cache of weapons was impounded on Monday along the Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire border, an official source in Conakry said.

According to the source, the weapons which were being transported on a motorcycle included rockets, rocket launchers, rifles, knives, a machete and a hatchet

Pursued by locals and police officers in Macenta region which is situated about 900 km south of Conakry, the transporter of the weapons abandoned his cargo and fled.

So far, security services have not identified the origin of the weapons or where they were destined to.

The seizure of the weapons has brought to fore the question of Guinea's internal security, especially after the country had taken measures to prevent any incident of terrorism that is being witnessed in some of the West African sub-regional countries.

In all strategic places in Conakry, the government has deployed surveillance officers and scanners to strictly control movement of people to prevent any terrorist attack. Enditem
