Beninese President-elect Patrice Talon on Sunday hailed his country's relations with China, saying China is a "major and indispensable partner" for the West African country.

"Today, China is a major and indispensable partner for our country and as such, we hope it will be a strategic partner for the fresh start," he told Xinhua in an interview.

Talon also said China is an "old and reliable partner of development" that has always been responsive to his country's needs.

On March 20, Talon won the presidential runoff by obtaining about 65.37 percent of the vote.
