Tokyo shares open higher on U.S. economy, weaker yen

Tokyo shares opened the trading Monday higher tracing better U.S. economy data and a weaker yen that triggered buying of export-oriented issues.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 106.87 points, or 0.63 percent, higher from Friday to 17,109.62.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 7.70 points, or 0.56 percent, to 1,373.75. Endit
