Burkina Faso civil societies to deploy 800 observers for municipal elections

Xinhua, March 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Burkina Faso civil society organizations will deploy about 800 observers in 351 municipalities for the supervision of municipal elections to be held on May 22 in the West Africa country, a source close to the matter said Friday.

"About 800 observers will be recruited and trained before being deployed across the country, two in every municipality," Lucien Ouedraogo, program officer of NGO Diakonia, said during a press conference.

The NGO is a technical and financial partner of the Convention of civil society organizations for domestic election observation (CODEL).

Information provided by the observation mission will be processed and published on a public free access website wwwburkinavote.com.

"We shall work for the good conduct of municipal elections," Halidou Ouedraogo, chairman of the CODEL said.

CODEL actively took part, with over 3,000 observers, to the observation of Burkina Faso presidential and general elections held on Nov. 29, 2015. Endit
