Dubai issues award encouraging innovative solutions for clean energy

The third edition of the global Emirates Energy Award 2016/2017 was launched in Dubai on Wednesday under the theme of "innovative solutions for clean energy."
Briefing the international media at press conference, Saeed Mohammed Al-Tayer, the Vice Chairman of The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, said "We look to promote a culture of excellence, sustainability and innovation in energy management, as well as ensuring efficiency, boosting sustainable alternative clean energy sources."
The award has 10 categories like energy efficiency or large and small energy project. Any clean or green energy-related company or individuals from any country in the world can apply on the condition that they implemented successfully a sustainable energy project in the Middle East and North Africa.
Al-Tayer said the award encourages "scientific research and knowledge in the energy field through nurturing an environment of creativity, competition, innovation as part of developing clean energy innovative solutions."
The award stands in line with Dubai's objective to increase the share of green energy for the total energy consumption in Dubai with its 2.5 million inhabitants to seven percent by 2020 from the current one percent. By 2030, this share shall rise to 25 percent and to 75 percent by 2050.
The sheikhdom aims to become the green benchmark for cities across the Mena region. Endit
