Tampa Bay wins baseball friendly match against Cuba

Xinhua, March 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

The MLB team Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Cuban national team 4-1 in a friendly match at Havana's Latinoamericano Stadium, putting an end to US President Barack Obama's historic visit to the island country.

With 55,000 fans packed into the stadium, the victory was largely crafted by Rays pitcher Matt Moore, who spent six innings on the mound, only giving up six hits and getting three strike outs.

The symbolic first pitch was thrown by two Cubans. Pedro Luis Lazo, 42, one of Cuba's best ever baseball players who led them to two Olympic gold medals and Luis Tiant, 75, a pitcher who became a MLB star for the Boston Red Sox.

Obama attended the game with his counterpart, Raul Castro, although both left the stadium early before travelling to the airport for Obama to depart on Air Force One for Argentina. Endi
