Serbia's security services on alert: PM

Xinhua, March 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Although there is no fear of terrorism in Belgrade after Brussels attacks, Serbia's security services will act preventively, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday.

Vucic said at a press conference on Tuesday that there is no fear of terrorist attacks in Serbia at this moment, but he announced that the Bureau for coordination of security services will meet soon to discuss the issue. He will talk with President Tomislav Nikolic about scheduling a meeting of the National Security Council.

"We will do everything in our power to prevent attacks, but there cannot be any guarantees," Vucic said, stressing that the task of the state is to protect borders, objects and people.

Vucic reminded that the readiness of the security forces has been raised due to recent floods and the migratory crisis, and that Serbia will in future days think how to additionally secure key objects in the country.

"Serbia gives its full support to the fight against terrorism, and it is ready to take part in it," Vucic added.

Flights between Belgrade and Brussels for Tuesday and Wednesday have been canceled after Tuesday's terrorist attacks in Brussels, while the Belgrade airport announced harsher security measures for passengers including additional security and counter-terrorism units at the entrance to terminals 1 and 2.
