Azerbaijan tightens security after deadly Brussels attacks

Xinhua, March 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Azerbaijan was on higher alert on Tuesday after deadly terrorist attacks rocked Brussels, with security tightened at the Heydar Aliyev international airport in Baku and all regional airports.

According to the Azerbaijan Airlines, civil aviation facilities in Azerbaijan will go through more strict inspections and control.

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday has extended condolences to the Prime Minister of Belgium Charles Michel and to the families, who lost loved ones in this barbaric attack.

"We are distressed by the news of heavy casualties and injuries as a result of explosions in Brussels," the letter says.

"We are extremely outraged by this horrible tragedy, resolutely condemn all manifestations of terror and fully support the fight against terrorism."

Earlier Tuesday, deadly explosions ripped through Brussels airport and a metro station in the Belgian capital, killing at least 34 people, according to the latest numbers published by Belgian media.

Brussels fire officials said that 212 people were wounded in the deadly attacks, for which the Islamic State has claimed responsibility. Endit
