French President Francois Hollande on Tuesday announced that the country's flags would fly at half mast to show solidarity with its neighbor Belgium where a series of attacks rocked the capital city of Brussels earlier this morning leaving many victims.

During a visit to the Belgium embassy in Paris, Hollande stressed "France stands alongside Belgium which is cowardly hit by terrorist attacks."

The French president added that bombings at Brussels targeted to hit "Europe, its value, principles and democracy."

He also called for a united front to win the war against terrorism which also broke the calm in Paris twice last year triggering a high alert and reinforced security.

According to media reports, at least 34 people were killed and 200 others were injured in explosions in an airport and a metro station in Brussels.

The Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the attacks. Enditem
