Icelandic PM sends condolences to Belgian counterpart over Brussels blasts

Icelandic Prime Minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson extended condolences to his Belgian counterpart Charles Michel, following the deadly attacks in Brussels on Tuesday morning.

"This series of terrible attacks is a major blow and once again weighed the basic values and the lifestyle of our democratic society", Sigmundur said in a statement issued by the website of PM's office.

At least 34 were killed by several bombings on Tuesday morning in the Belgian capital.

The Icelandic Foreign Ministry issued a statement, encouraging those Icelanders who were staying in Belgium to use SMS or social media to convey information to their relatives and friends. Endit
