Britons given jail sentence or fine in Kenya for airport offences

A Kenyan court on Monday ruled that four Britons should be jailed for one year or pay 2,000 U.S. dollars for trespass and taking photos at an airport in the capital Nairobi.

Stephen Gibson, 59, Ian Glover, 46, Edwin Swift, 47 and Paul William, 47, on March 10 entered the airside of the Wilson Airport and took pictures without permission, according to magistrate Heston Nyaga.

They had refused to follow instructions given by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) manager Douglas Singei before committing the offences.

"They were denied access as their passports had not been checked by the relevant authority, and advised to return to the KAA for its manager's permission," Nyaga said.

The four pleaded guilty to the charges.

Photos at airports were banned in Kenya following a massacre by Islamist gunmen at a shopping center in Nairobi in 2013 that killed over 60 people.

The four were on a trip to Africa. They arrived in Kenya from Ethiopia. Endit
