New far rightist legislator arrives at Slovak parliament with firearm

Xinhua, March 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Peter Krupa, a legislator for the far-right Kotleba-People's Party Our Slovakia (LSNS), took a firearm to the parliamentary building on Monday.

Krupa voluntarily surrendered the gun upon arriving at parliament, where he had come to discuss the distribution of parliamentary posts. LSNS leader Marian Kotleba said that Krupa is in legal possession of the firearm.

According to Slovak Interior Minister Robert Kalinak, it's unacceptable for MPs to take guns to parliament.

"It was shocking. I don't suppose that the future MP should be afraid of his security in parliament. This in no way corresponds to the culture that we're striving to have in parliament. This is just unacceptable," said Kalinak, noting that it's forbidden to take firearms to the building.

LSNS entered for the first time Slovak Parliament with election result of 8.04 percent of all votes. The party took 15 seats in the Parliament. Endit
