Japan provides 181 mln USD to Cambodia for 3 projects

Japan on Monday signed up to provide 181 million U.S. dollars in loan and grant aid to Cambodia for road and bridge improvement as well as mine clearance project, according to a statement from the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia Yuji Kumamaru inked the loan and grant aid agreements here under the presence of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and visiting Japanese parliamentary vice-minister for foreign affairs Masakazu Hamachi.

According to the statement, the loan of 142 million U.S. dollars will be used to improve the south section of National Road 5, and the grant aid of 39 million U.S. dollars will be used to rehabilitate the Chroy Changvar Bridge and to improve demining devices and equipment.

"I hope that these projects will help further strengthen the friendly relations between Japan and Cambodia,"Kumamaru said at the signing ceremony. Enditem
