Cuba, Venezuela update long-term cooperation plan

Xinhua, March 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Cuba and Venezuela have updated a long-term bilateral cooperation agreement for the next 15 years, covering the fields of healthcare, agriculture, industry, tourism and mining.

Cuban Foreign Trade Minister Rodrigo Malmierca and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez signed the final act of the 16th meeting of the Cuba-Venezuela Intergovernmental Commission here on Friday after talks.

Cuban President Raul Castro and his visiting Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro took part in the signing ceremony.

The cooperation plan, which spans 15 years from 2016 to 2030, has been worked out on the basis of a comprehensive cooperation agreement which was signed by late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and former Cuban leader Fidel Castro in October 2000.

"Cuba and Venezuela are moving toward a new era," said Rodriguez at the meeting.

Malmierca said that working together in new areas would help collaboration grow in the long run. Endi
