The following are highlights of South African major media outlets on Friday:

-- The economy and local government elections are the two items on the agenda of a meeting of the African National Congress (ANC) top brass, but a debate on the influence of the politically connected Gupta family on President Jacob Zuma is likely to dominate discussions.

The national executive committee (NEC) meeting follows a heated week in which a number of ANC leaders outed the manner in which the Guptas attempted to influence them, most prominent of which was Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas. (Business Day)

-- Members of the influential and wealthy Gupta family have not been issued with official South African passports, home affairs director general Mkuseli Apleni said on Friday.

"An official passport is given to somebody employed by government and we, as home affairs, are responsible for that. For us, we have never issued an official passport to any of the Gupta family (members)," Apleni told reporters in Pretoria. (Independent on Saturday). Endit
