Good governance lies at the core of political stability, economic prosperity and social harmony, the Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri said on Friday.

Speaking at Crans Montana Forum on Africa and South-South Cooperation, which kicked off on Friday in Morocco's southern city of Dakhla, Altwaijri emphasized that good governance is "so profound and inclusive" that it extends beyond the political and social spheres as to encompass the cultural, educational and civilizational dimensions.

"Good governance, in this deep comprehensive sense, is the only way to ensure the development of societies at all levels, through fighting all forms of corruption, anchoring the rule of law and accountability, improving the living conditions of the population and opening new venues for cooperation," he explained.

He added that good governance will certainly accelerate growth and enable the Global South to overcome obstacles to development, and work further to meet the aspirations of present and future generations.

He stressed that comprehensive sustainable development, based on socioeconomic development, should stand on a solid foundation of good governance, underpinned by the rule of law, respect for public freedoms, increased participation in public affairs management, and commitment to the supreme interests of society.

Held under the theme "Toward a better Governance for a sustainable Economic and Social Development," this forum brings together more than 1,000 participants from 131 countries and representatives of 27 regional and international organizations take part in the forum.

For six days, government officials, MPs and businesses leaders from all over the world will debate a wide range of issues that are facing Africa and south countries, including sustainable development, climate change, entrepreneurship human, food and energy security. Endit
