Ten die in car crash in S. Mozambique

Xinhua, March 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ten people died and seven others injured in a car crash Friday in the southern Mozambican province of Gaza, local police said. The accident happened in the morning when a passenger minibus travelling from the town of Chokwe to Macia town, in Macia district of Gaza, overturned.

"The minibus overturned when the driver tried to overtake another car just on arrival in Macia. It killed 10 people and injuring seven others," said Jeremias Langa, spokesperson for the Gaza police command.

Langa said the bodies were taken to the local mortuary, while the injured were admitted in the local health facility.

The police have vowed to combat car crashes on the Mozambican roads, which kill dozens of people every week, mostly due to non-observance of road rules.

One of the measures being observed by the motorists includes the prohibition of night trips by passenger transports. Enditem
