The United Nations (UN) has pledged support for Burkina Faso to help combat terrorism.

Mohamed Ibn Chambas, UN special representative for West Africa, on Friday assured Burkina Faso authorities of the UN support in the fight against terrorism in the West African country.

"We discussed the support of the United Nations to the priorities of the government in peace consolidation, particularly in security sector," Chambas told the press in Ouagadougou after meeting with President Roch Marc Christian Kabore.

Burkina Faso is one of the countries exposed to terrorist attack in West Africa. It has been experiencing a wave of jihadist attacks, mostly on police stations in northern regions.

On Jan. 15, jihadist attacked a luxury hotel in the capital, and killed some 30 people.

Early this month, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon visited the country, and assured the authorities of UN support. Enditem
