Stray lion controlled after injuring man in Kenyan capital

Xinhua, March 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

A lion that sneaked out of a Kenyan national park has been controlled after injuring an elderly man in the capital Nairobi on Friday, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has said.

The KWS said that the lion has been driven back into the Nairobi National Park and that the injured 63-year-old man is in a stable condition in hospital.

The lion named Cheru strayed out of the national park on Friday morning.

KWS spokesman Paul Udoto said the hooting by motorists, who spotted the lion along the city's Mombasa Road, might have agitated it.

A video posted on social media shows the lion wandering along the road with motorists rolling down the windows, watching and hooting.

Most residents living along the busy road stayed indoors following news of the lion's appearance.

The latest incident comes after four lionesses were reported to have strayed from the park last month. One later returned but the other three are yet to be found.

The KWS urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid provoking the lions in case of an encounter. Endit
