Singapore's ministers will attend the ninth meeting of Singapore-Australia Joint Ministerial Committee (SAJMC) in Sydney on Friday, announced the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in a statement on Thursday.
Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Trade and Industry (Trade) Lim Hng Kiang and Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen will meet their Australian counterparts represented by Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop, Minister for Defence Marise Payne, Minister for Trade and Investment Steven Ciobo and Special Envoy for Trade Andrew Robb.
Co-chaired by foreign ministers of the two countries, the ninth SAJMC meeting will provide an opportunity for ministers to take stock of the progress made on Singapore-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), building on the positive momentum from Minister Balakrishnan's introductory visit to Australia in early March, said MFA.
CSP, inked in June 2015, aims to strengthen bilateral relations in various sectors, including trade and investment, defence and security, foreign affairs, and people-to-people ties.
SAJMC is a high-level bilateral dialogue mechanism that is hosted alternately between Singapore and Australia. The mechanism provides an opportunity for ministers of the two countries to review bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and international developments. Established in 1996, SAJMC meeting was last held in Singapore in August 2014. Endit
