Cote d'Ivoire government on Wednesday urged the country's population to unite following Sunday's terrorist attacks in Grand Bassam town, some 30 km from the commercial capital Abidjan.
"These terrorist acts had nothing to do with Islam. The government urges the population to remain united and cooperate with the security forces," Government Spokesman Bruno Kone said after a cabinet meeting in Abidjan.
"Despite the attack, terrorists will never manage to roll back the hard work done by Cote d'Ivoire people," Kone said.
On Sunday afternoon, three hotels mostly frequented by Westerners, situated in the Grand Bassam seaside resort, were attacked by terrorists.
Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) claimed responsibility for the attack which left 22 people dead, among them 16 civilians, three soldiers and three terrorists.
During an address to the nation on Monday, Cote d'Ivoire President Alassane Ouattara urged sub-regional countries to unite in the fight against terrorism. Enditem
