Tokyo shares end lower on yen's advance

Tokyo shares erased gains in the morning session and ended the trading Thursday slightly lower on the yen's advance which dragged down the export-oriented issues.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average inched down 38.07 points, or 0.22 percent, from Wednesday to 16,936.38.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 1.53 points, or 0.11 percent, to 1,358.97.

Marine transportation, electric power and gas, and miscellaneous product issues lost ground.

The turnover was about 2,261.8 billion yen (around 20.01 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
