Corinthians surge to top of Copa Libertadores group

Corinthians moved closer to securing a place in the Copa Libertadores knockout phase with a 2-0 victory over Cerro Porteno on Wednesday.

Midfielder Lucca opened the scoring for the Brazilian outfit with a 23rd-minute strike before Victor Mareco turned the ball into his own net just past the hour.

The result at Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo lifted Corinthians to the top of Group 8 with nine points from four matches.

Colombia's Independiente Santa Fe are second with seven points, ahead of Paraguay's Cerro Porteno on goal difference.

In other games on Wednesday, Atletico Mineiro defeated Colo Colo 3-0, The Strongest drew 1-1 at home with River Plate and Sao Paulo drew 1-1 at Trujillanos. Endit
