Tokyo shares open higher on Fed's rates decision

Tokyo shares opened the trading Thursday higher following the U.S. Federal Reserve's decision to maintain its current interest rates after its two-day policy meeting.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 188.03 points, or 1.11 percent, from Wednesday to 17,162.48.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 13.52 points, or 0.99 percent, at 1,374.02. Enditem
