UAE FM's visit promises trade boost for New Zealand

Xinhua, March 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Trade is high of the agenda of United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan's official visit to New Zealand, Foreign Minister Murray McCully said Thursday.

"The UAE is an important partner for New Zealand in the Gulf region and our 10th largest export destination," McCully said in a statement to mark the Sheikh Abdullah's arrival.

"Our talks will focus on expanding two way trade, regional security issues and the UAE's support for renewable energy initiatives in the Pacific," he said.

"During the visit a number of arrangements will be signed, designed to facilitate trade in primary produce between New Zealand and the UAE."

Non-stop air links between Dubai and Auckland began this month and promised increased tourism between the two countries, McCully said.

Sheikh Abdullah would also meet with Prime Minister John Key, Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee, Trade Minister Todd McClay, Transport Minister Simon Bridges, and Attorney General Christopher Finlayson while in New Zealand. Endit
