New deal for Barca utility player Adriano

Xinhua, March 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

FC Barcelona announced on Wednesday that the club had signed a new contract with utility player Adriano Correa to keep him at the Camp Nou Stadium until the end of the 2016-17 season.

The deal puts an end to speculation over Adriano's future after it had appeared that the 31-year-old's contract was going to be allowed to expire after a campaign in which injuries have limited him to just 16 first team appearances in all competition.

Adriano joined Barcelona from Sevilla in the summer of 2010 after spending six seasons with Sevilla and his adaptability has meant that although he has never been one of the stars at the club, he has been able to play at both left and right back, as well as in midfield and even in central defense.

His five and a half seasons with Barca have seen him win 14 titles, among them two BBVA Primera Liga titles and the Champions League on two occasions.

The news of the contract was confirmed a matter of hours before Barca defend a 2-0 lead at home to Arsenal as they look to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the tenth successive season. Endit
