Afghan army kills 10 militants during operation

Xinhua, March 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Afghan National Army (ANA) has killed 10 militants as it conducted an offensive in the country's eastern province of Kunar, an army source said on Wednesday.

"The ANA conducted a cleanup operation in surrounding areas of Asmar and Ghazi Abad district on Tuesday. So far, 10 militants have been killed and three others wounded," Colonel Shirin Agha, an army spokesman in the region, told Xinhua.

The army engineering teams also found and defused several roadside bombs and landmines, the source said, adding that one army personnel was also killed and two others wounded during the ongoing raid.

"The raid will continue before the area is cleared of the militants and army will spare no efforts to provide security and assistance to villagers in the two districts in the mountainous province," he said.

Afghan security forces have pressed on clearing the militants in restive provinces as Taliban militants have been attempting to take territory and consolidate their positions during the winter in the Asian country.

The Taliban militant group has yet to make comments. Enditem
