China congratulates new Myanmar president

China on Tuesday congratulated Myanmar on its election of U Htin Kyaw as president.

"China looks forward to strengthening cooperation with Myanmar's new government," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said at a regular press briefing.

He said that China will continue to support Myanmar's efforts toward stability, development and ethnic reconciliation, and described the two countries as "friendly neighbors."

"We believe that with common efforts, the China-Myanmar partnership will be consolidated and enhanced," according to the spokesperson. Endi
