1st LD: First group of Russian aircraft leaves Syria for Russia: Defense Ministry

The first group of Russian aircraft has left the Hmeimim air base in Syria for their home base in Russia, the Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

The group is composed of a Tu-154 transport plane as the "leader," and several multifunction Su-23 bombers, the ministry said in a press release.

Each group of the withdrawing forces will be led by a transport plane carrying personnel and equipment, followed by fighter jets, the ministry added.

The move came after Moscow announced it would withdraw from Tuesday the bulk of its forces from the war-torn Middle East country. Endi
