Algeria on Monday condemned the "cowardly and murderous" terrorist attack that hit a seaside resort southeast of Abidjan, the capital city of Cote d'Ivoire.

"Algeria strongly condemns the cowardly and murderous terrorist attack that targeted innocents on Sunday on the beach resort in Grand-Bassam in Cote d'Ivoire," APS news agency quoted Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abdelaziz Benali Cherif as saying.

Algeria urges regional and international actors to combine every effort in a bid to effectively combat the scourge of terrorism that threatens peace and stability across the world.

On Sunday afternoon, militants claiming to belong to Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) stormed the resort beach of Grand-Bassam, 40 km southeast of Abidjan, killing at least 16 civilians. Six attackers and two soldiers were also killed. Endit
