Remains of prehistoric animal found in Kyrgyzstan

Xinhua, March 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Villagers in northeastern Kyrgyzstan have found the remains of a prehistoric animal which scientists believe may be a mammoth or mastodon, the local governor's office said Monday.

The remains were found last week on a cliff above the Jergalan River in the Issyk-Kul region, the office said in a press release.

It added that the excavations have revealed fragments of the upper part of the head, tusks and teeth of the animal.

Scientists from the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan are expected for further excavation.

Scientists are still unsure about the exact kind of the animal remains, but the Central Asian country has previously found the remains of mammoths and mastodons. Endi
