1st LD: 4 Israeli soldiers wounded, 3 assailants shot dead in West Bank attacks

Xinhua, March 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Four Israeli soldiers were lightly wounded and three Palestinian assailants were killed in two attacks in a West Bank settlement on Monday morning, the Israeli military said.

In the first attack, two Palestinian assailants opened fire on people waiting at a bus stop at the entrance of Kiryat Arba, a Jewish settlement east of Hebron in the West Bank.

One soldier was wounded lightly, a Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said in a statement. Israeli security forces shot and killed the assailants, it added.

Moments later, another Palestinian rammed his car into a military vehicle, in what the army said was a second attack. Three soldiers were slightly wounded in the incident, and forces shot and killed the assailant, according to the army. Two knives were recovered on the Palestinian driver, the army said.

The attacks Monday are the latest in a wave of unrest that started last October and claimed the lives of 28 Israelis and over 175 Palestinians.

Israeli leaders accuse the Palestinian Authority of inciting violence, while the Palestinians say the wave of unrest is the result of 49 years of Israeli occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza Strip, where they wish to establish a Palestinian state. Endit
