1st LD Writethru: 22 killed as gunmen storm Cote d'Ivoire beach resort

At least 14 civilians and two soldiers were killed as gunmen on Sunday attacked Cote d'Ivoire's beach resort of Grand Bassam, President Alassane Ouattara said.

President Ouattara, who visited the site, said six attackers who carried out the attack have been killed.

A French foreign ministry spokesman said at least one French national was among the victims.

Grand Bassam, located 40 km east of the commercial hub of Abidjan, is popular with both locals and western tourists.

Some media outlets reported Al-Qaeda's north African branch has claimed responsibility for the attack. Endit
