Nigerian minister denies remarks economy beyond president's control

Xinhua, March 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Nigeria's Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed refuted Sunday reports that while speaking on a radio show on Saturday, he claimed the Nigerian economy had gone out of the control of the current administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a reaction to the reports and criticisms that followed, the minister said in a statement reaching Xinhua on Sunday that his words were distorted.

The minister described the comment as a gross misrepresentation of what he said when he appeared on the radio show on Saturday.

According to Mohammed, this is a gross misrepresentation of what he said.

"I could not have said that the economy is out of the control of the President or the administration that he is leading," he added.

The minister said the Buhari administration decided to turn the economic disaster that it inherited to a blessing by diversifying the economy. Endit
