Spotlight: China's new ideas on global governance win extensive appreciation

Xinhua, March 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Since taking office in late 2012, the current leadership of China has proposed a series of new initiatives and programs on global governance, winning extensive appreciation by international scholars and experts.

During the ongoing annual political sessions by the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference this year, international experts and scholars, in commenting on China's new ideas on global governance, have expressed the belief that along with continued promotion of the national strength, China is advancing toward the center of the international arena.

Yuri Tavrovsky, professor with People's Friendship University of Russia, believed that China can shoulder its responsibilities and actively advocate the idea of cooperation leading to an all-win situation, which has become a "landmark."

China will host the summit of the Group of 20 (G20) in September, after it took over the G20 presidency in December 2015. Observers believed that China's chairing of the G20 will be an important opportunity for the world economic development in 2016, and that China will play an important role on global economic agenda.

China has international influence and it is also a representative of the developing countries and emerging economies, said Gao Fei, professor of China Foreign Affairs University.

China's assumption of the G20 presidency in 2016 will boost the development and improvement of the world economic system and promote revival of the global economy, said Gao.

China's Belt and Road Initiative offers win-win opportunities for Central Asian countries and promotes regional cooperation, said Nurlan Aitmurzaev, rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Belt and Road Initiative fully respects the sovereignty of countries, pursues mutual benefits, combines and promotes to higher levels multilateral interests, and enables the relevant countries to share dividends of common development, said Aitmurzaev.

The major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics is promoted under the premise of respecting the sovereignty of other countries and non-interference of their internal affairs, said Oh Ei Sun, senior fellow with S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University.

For many scholars and experts on international relations, crisis solutions initiated by China are brand new.

China always sticks to the idea of harmonious coexistence and cooperation leading to an all-win situation in handling international relations, which has generated widespread influence worldwide, said Tavrovsky.

It mends gaps created by confrontations and conflicts, said the Russian university professor, adding that is why China's ideas on global governance deserve being studied intensively.

The international community expects China's ideas on global governance to develop further to become a global consensus, just as United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has hoped that it is essential for China to demonstrate its leadership continuously.

Tavrovsky also noted that the China-advocated ideas on global governance will eventually "blossom and bear fruit" in the world order.

The fourth sessions of the 12th National People's Congress and the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, briefly called "Two Sessions," are being held in Beijing. Endi
