Changchun team gives gold commemoration medals to soccer Olympians

Xinhua, March 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Changchun club of Chinese women's league announced on Sunday that they will present pure gold commemorative medals to their members in Chinese national team, who had anchored a berth for the Rio Olympics.

There are three Changchun players, Ren Guixin, Zhao Rong and Liu Shanshan, in the Chinese women squad. They will receive the pure gold medals as gifts and encouragements for their outstanding performance in China's endeavor for Rio Olympics qualification.

Liu You, the manager of Changchun, will also get one medal for his contribution to reviving Chinese women soccer.

"We'd like to see our three internationals to do better in Rio and to see all the women players and coaches that working hard get deserved recognition and reward in helping Chinese women soccer return to the world class," Said Liu.

China, ranked 17th in the world, had failed to book a ticket to the London Olympics and was not favored in the Rio 2016 qualifications as compared to former world champions Japan, traditional powerhouses Australia and DPR Korea, but they, nicknamed "Steel Roses", have collected three wins and two draws to secure the Olympic slot in advance last week, beating Japan, South Korea and Vietnam, tying DPR Korea and Australia in Asian qualifiers.

Changchun club had gifted a SUV vehicle to their player Ren, who's in the Chinese lineup to reach the quarterfinals of women's World Cup 2015.

"Chinese women soccer players deserve not only verbal honors, but also material awards," commented posters online. Endit
