Myanmar military releases 46 more child soldiers

Myanmar military has released 46 more child soldiers who are claimed to have been wrongly recruited, according to an official report Sunday.
With the presence of UN officials, these child soldiers were ceremonially handed back to their respective parents in Yangon on Saturday.
The military authorities disclosed that up to now, it has freed 744 underage soldiers including the present 46, adding that action was taken against 382 military personnel including 73 officers for being involved in the recruitment of minors.
Major-General Tauk Tun of the Office of the Army Chief was quoted as saying that the military has banned recruiting underage children, adding that it has been scrutinizing its forces in order to release those who were wrongly recruited.
In June 2012, the Myanmar government signed a Joint Action Plan with the UN in a bid to prevent and end the recruitment and use of children under 18. Endit
